2024 Voter & Election Information

WV Ballot Box

Waterville Valley is one of the few towns left in the state of New Hampshire which still uses the original ballot box (pictured above) for registered voters to cast their ballots into for elections. Ballot boxes were given to towns by the NH Secretary of State's office for use in the 1892 General Election. Some town's no longer have them, or now utilize electronic voting machines, but in Waterville Valley our ballot box is still in great shape and used in every election!!

HOW TO REGISTER TO VOTE

FOUR WAYS TO REGISTER TO VOTE. Each way requires proof of age, citizenship, and domicile, by document or affidavit.

  1. You may register to vote at the town clerk's office up to 10 days before any election.
    1. The town clerk's office is at the Rust Municipal Building, 14 TAC Lane, Waterville Valley, NH.
    2. The town clerk does not keep regular office hours; please contact Town Office at (603) 236-4730 for more information.
  2. You may also register to vote with your local Supervisors of the Checklist.
    1. They are required to meet at designated times to accept registrations and changes in party affiliation.
    2. Please contact Town Office at (603) 236-4730 for more information.
  3. You may also register to vote on the day of any election, at the polling place. Be aware this will take extra time.
  4. You may register absentee, by mail. If you are unable to register in person because of physical disability, religious beliefs, military service, or because of temporary absence, you may register by mail. You should request an absentee voter registration affidavit and a standard voter registration form from your town or city clerk. The absentee voter registration affidavit must be witnessed and then both the affidavit and the voter registration form are to be returned to your town or city clerk. Allow enough time for this.

BY ABSENTEE BALLOT:

By NH law, only residents who will be absent from the town during the hours the polls are open on election day, and residents with illness or disabilities or religious reasons or employment obligations for being unable to travel to the polls are eligible to vote absentee.

Absentee ballots are available from your town clerk approximately 30 days before an election. Request the absentee ballot application from the clerk or you may download the application. If you wish, you may submit a request in writing that should include all the information required on the application: your name, voting address, mailing address and your signature. An application for an absentee ballot may be transmitted by FAX to your town clerk.

Voting in New Hampshire

If you have questions about your voting rights, you may contact the NH Secretary of State (603) 271-3242 or the NH Attorney General (603) 271-3658.

IMPORTANT:

If you currently registered “UNDECLARED”, you can still  VOTE in a PRIMARY!  An “Undeclared” voter MUST choose a party when checking in at the Primary Election.  The “Undeclared” voter then receives a ballot for the party of his/her choice, and then becomes part of that party that they choose.  (i.e. if someone chooses a Republican ballot at the Primary, they are now registered as a Republican; if someone chooses a Democrat ballot at the Primary, they are now registered as a Democrat.)**

AFTER VOTING:  A voter may return to the “Undeclared” status by visiting the Supervisors of the Checklist before leaving the polling area.
