COVID 19 Update July 9, 2020

4th of July Weekend

Social Distancing – When around people other than those you live with, please try to maintain at least six feet between yourself and others.

Wearing a Mask  - This is only a recommendation, it isn’t mandatory.  We recommend that masks be worn outdoors or indoors if you cannot properly socially distance.  Businesses can require masks be worn on their premises and can refuse service and ask a patron to leave if they refuse to wear a mask.

4th of July Parade – The annual 4th of July Parade was a great success!  We had a total of 14 vehicles/floats in the parade and 3 different awards were presented to selected participants.

  • Spirit Cup Winner – WVSR
  • Best Use of Theme – Roper Real Estate
  • Most Patriotic – Snows Brook Just Ducky

We estimate a few hundred people observed the parade from the sidelines.  Everyone seemed to be observing recommendations on distancing and masks and we are very appreciative of everyone’s efforts to enjoy the day in a responsible manner!

Fireworks Display at the Golf Clubhouse – We have received questions about the fireworks show at the Golf Course on July 4th.

  • Was this event open to the general public?  No, this was a private event by invitation only.
  • Why were permits issued for these fireworks?  The event host – the Waterville Valley Golf Club (WVGC) – applied for necessary permits and met all of the requirements for conducting a private fireworks display.  The event was completely on private property, there was sufficient parking for the event and the Department of Public Safety concurred with public health and safety arrangements for the event.
  • Why were people gathering in such large groups, so close together?  There are currently no limits to the numbers of people who can gather outdoors on private property.  People who are gathering are encouraged to properly socially distance and wear a mask when they cannot do so.  At the fireworks event, it appeared that most, if not all, of the attendees followed health guidelines and were respectful of others.
  • Why was parking allowed on the field next to the Ice Arena?  The WVGC coordinated with the owners of the field to park fireworks attendees.  This arrangement allowed the WVGC staff to communicate requirements to attendees individually before they left their cars. The Department of Public Safety reviewed the parking plan and felt that it provided a safe way to communicate with attendees and fit into a proper traffic plan for after the event.

Other Items of Interest

Recreation Department Summer Camps – We are halfway through our first week of Summer Camp 2020!  We have four groups of campers with eight participants and two staff in each group.  Camp is going very well, and the kids are having a really good time playing and just being together again!  Our staff has really embraced the mission of providing a safe and welcoming environment for the participants and enjoying the experience right along with the campers.

Village Trail Construction Project – The contractor has completed site work on the project.  All we are waiting on now are the light poles and fixtures as well as directional signs.  The new surface is much easier to travel for both bikes and pedestrians!  We appreciate the professional job from DA White Excavating on this first step in our trails improvement efforts around Town.

Other Summer Activities – In addition to Summer Camps, the WV Rec Department is hosting guided hike tours, boat rentals at Corcoran Pond, movie nights, and other outdoor activities this summer.  Visit the Recreation Dept Website at wvrd.recdesk.com or the Rec Department Facebook page for a detailed schedule and information on how to sign up.

Future Selectmen’s Meetings and COVID-19 Updates – The next regular Board of Selectmen’s Meeting will be held on-line at 3PM on July 15th.  Many towns across NH are starting to meet in-person again, but here in Waterville Valley we are planning to continue on-line meetings for our public boards until the beginning of September.  The Selectmen will be discussing how and when to re-open public meetings at an upcoming meeting.  Stay tuned for further announcements on the Town Website at www.watervillevalley.org
